I have no previous art experience or it’s been a long time, where do I start?
I love teaching beginners. I start by teaching basic drawing. This entails how to use your right brain and training your eye to see. Basic drawing takes between 9 – 12 hours to complete. There after you can choose which medium and theme you want to learn.
If I am an advanced artist but I am stuck in a rut, or I just need a bit of feedback can I come?
Yes, I will give feedback on your work and help unlock your creative spirit. Sometimes we just need to have a fresh approach to get unstuck.
How big are the group classes?
I have 9 people at the most in a class.
What do I need to bring for the basic drawing classes?
You will need the following materials:
- Pencil set (HB, 2B, 4B, 6B,)
- Small Prestick or putty rubber
- A3 Sketchbook
I will give you advice about quality and price of other art materials as you progress to new materials.
From what age do kids start?
I start kids around 12 years old. If you are not sure, I will do an assessment test to see if they are ready. My classes are small, and adults and kids are combined.
I’m unsure if this is the right class for me?
You are welcome to join me for the first lesson and just pay me for one lesson and then decide if you want to book your space by paying the deposit.
How do the payments work?
Payments are made in advance for the month.
If you miss a class you forfeit the money.
All new students must pay a deposit of one month’s class fees. Cancellation of a class must be given 1 month in advance. If not; the deposit payment will not be refunded.
Can I only pay for the classes I attend?
I do offer single classes. You can just contact me to be placed on the waiting list for the day. If a space opens up I will Whatsapp/SMS you with an offer of a space for the day. Cost is R160/class for 3 hours; excluding materials. Most of my classes are fully booked with regulars so space for single classes has no guarantee. An offer for a space can be on very short notice as regulars cancel their place for the class.
I want to stop attending classes?
If you would like to terminate your classes, please give a months’ notice.
I’m unable to attend a class due to illness or other commitments. Now what?
If you are unable to attend a class, please let me know at least 2 hours before the start of class. This will enable me to book the space for students that want to catch up a class. If you cancel a class less than 2 hours in advance or don’t attend I will not be obliged to let you catch up the missed class.
Easiest is to Whatsapp/SMS me on +27 72 274 0491. Please make arrangements with me if you need to catch up a class. Your name will be added to the waiting list if no space is available. If someone cancels their class I will SMS you. Please confirm if you are able to attend, if not I am then able to offer the space to someone else. Your cooperation in this regard is greatly appreciated.
I sent you a message that I can’t attend but I didn’t get a reply. Now what?
Please check that the message is sent and read. I will always reply when I receive it within reasonable hours. If you sent a message and I did not receive it, you will forfeit the class because I was unable to use the place. Technology does fail us sometimes, so please check.
I’m going away for an extended period of time but I don’t want to lose my place in class. What can I do?
If you are going away for a month or more and you do not want to catch up so many classes, you are welcome to give your space to a friend for the month. Your friend can then pay the months fees and you can still have your spot when you come back. Your friend has to attend your classes in your time slot, on the days you are away. These can not be caught up on other dates. If you don’t want to lose your spot in class and don’t have a friend to take your space, you can forfeit the classes.
Will my car be safe?
I do have parking behind gates with additional security.
Do you have some examples of what people create at The Art Centre?
The Art Centre has a closed Facebook Group where I post most of the finished works.
Just ask to be invited if you want to see what the students at The Art Centre create.
